Care has a new name.
On July 10th, the Pregnancy Resource Centers of First Image changed their name!
See the full announcement here:
Ava is a word that means life, or to live. We want the people we serve to experience life-affirming care. As a common name, it also has a softer and more personal feel. Importantly, it is also a name that is easily pronounced in multiple languages.
Health is a word with a medical emphasis but can also go beyond that. It sets us clearly apart as a medical clinic, but does not detract from the whole-person nature of the care we provide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why change the name?
Our desire to serve more women considering abortion has led us to evaluate our current communication with potential patients. That includes the name “Pregnancy Resource Center.” For a person who isn’t sure they want to be pregnant, the word, “pregnancy,” and the concept of a resource center doesn’t speak to where they are at. We want to make sure that even those who don’t want to be pregnant feel they can find the care they need at one of our centers.
It’s also important that we are clear about who we are. We are a real medical clinic, and we want our potential patients to know that.
Why "Ava"?
Ava is a word that means life, or to live. We want the people we serve to experience life-affirming care. As a common name, it also has a softer and more personal feel. Importantly, it is also a name that is easily pronounced in multiple languages.
Why now?
As Oregon becomes a key abortion destination in the post-Dobbs world, and as the abortion pill is more accessible than ever, we know it’s critical that there are life-affirming alternatives for pregnancy and women’s health services.
Is First Image changing their name too?
No. First Image will continue to be the umbrella under which our 3 area clinics operate, along with Kindred Network. First Image will remain the name of the organization as a whole.
Are we staying focused on Jesus?
The heart of our work is and always will be the compassionate and Jesus-centered way that care is offered, with concern for the whole person.
Will services for patients still be free?
Yes. We are committed at our clinics to provide all professional medical services at no cost. All medical services are funded by individuals, churches, and others in our community.
We receive no government funding.
What services will your clinics provide?
Our clinics will provide pregnancy testing and confirmation, limited first and second trimester ultrasounds, and STD testing and treatment.
We are expanding our pregnancy and women’s health services and rolling those out over the next year.
How do those considering abortion find your clinics?
Starting July 10th, those considering abortion can find us online, at avahealthpdx.org, on Instagram and Facebook as @avahealthpdx, and by community referral.
We are committed to intentional marketing to reach women at risk for abortion. We are tripling our investment in patient marketing, so potential patients can know of our life-affirming services in greater Portland.
Will you still provide other kinds of pregnancy support?
We will always remain committed to provide social, spiritual, and physical support to those that walk through our doors.
