“When I asked a patient of mine how she felt about being pregnant, she said that she was experiencing a lot of moral conflict. She explained that there were so many reasons to have an abortion:
- She was starting a new job.
- They didn’t have good family support.
- There were financial and housing plans hanging in the balance.
She said she and her husband had sat down together and made a pros/cons list, and that abortion had come out on top.
‘Logically, abortion makes sense,’ she said. ‘But my faith is causing me to question it.’
She said she had a Christian upbringing and still identified with the religious values she had been taught. Her voice trembled as she told me she didn’t think they would have peace with either decision. My heart ached for her as I took in the mixture of grief and anxiety in her expression. I prayed with her, asking the Lord to make His presence known to her. During the ultrasound, she and her husband were very quiet. They agreed to come back the next week for a follow-up scan but ended up cancelling the appointment a few days later.
Although I have been unable to reach her since her initial visit with us, my thoughts often return to her desperate, conflicted face. She is out of our hands, but I find hope and comfort in the knowledge that she is in the hands of the One who can make a way in a seemingly impossible situation.”
This patient story is not one that I would normally share, but God reminded me that HE is bringing our patients in, and in His faithfulness, He will bring His good works into completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). This is also why we count on your prayers as a key part of our mission; because more often than not, despite our best efforts, we don’t know where our patients will end up.
To our prayer partners, thank you for faithfully lifting up the work God is doing in our clinics. We know these prayers do not return empty! If you would like to walk alongside us in support of the mission, you can join our Prayer Team to receive emails with specific praises and prayer requests of First Image.
