When she came in, nervous and determined, it quickly became clear that we were not the clinic she was looking for. Pregnant and abandoned callously by a trusted, long-term boyfriend, she only saw one path forward—termination.
As we sat in conversation, waiting for her pregnancy test results, her tears flowed continually, and she finally revealed the core reason for her anguish.
“The Ten Commandments say: ‘You shall not murder,’ she said, “and I believe that’s what I’m about to do.”
Although she believed children were a blessing, she didn’t see how she could do this alone.
“It isn’t fair,” she said.
This choice was clearly ripping her apart. We prayed together before the nurse took her in for her ultrasound.
When she missed her next appointment, we were prepared for the reality that she had probably followed through with the abortion she had planned. But when we finally reached her via phone several weeks later, her tone was different. She shared her gratitude that we were not the abortion clinic she originally thought we were.
She recounted for us that after we had prayed in the appointment together, she had begun seeking God’s will and had decided to keep her baby—leaving both of their futures in His hands.
Within a few days, she had a harrowing miscarriage that landed her in the hospital. The following weeks were extremely hard, both physically and emotionally, but even amid her exhaustion and discouragement, she did not lose hope. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” she said, as she recounted her story over the phone. She expressed that Jesus Christ was her Savior and she was holding on to the promise that He would never give her more than she could handle.
Life is precious. All life—no matter the quality or the length of that life; and this woman’s choice for life is not made any less beautiful by the short time she carried her child. Not every story has a happy ending. Not every woman who chooses life is able to physically carry her baby to term. But every life is precious to the Father and is beautiful in His sight. So, we celebrate each one; we mourn those lost, and we seek His face in this ministry together.
