We had a patient schedule an appointment and when she did, she told our scheduler immediately that she was intending to have an abortion. When she arrived and we started her paperwork, she was very open about how she was feeling and why she was wanting an abortion. She shared that she had finally been able to go back to work after having kids and she told us just how much she loved her job. She was overwhelmed, sleep deprived and stressed. She shared that her partner was supportive of whatever she chose, but she just couldn’t see how it would be possible to carry out this pregnancy. When we discussed her options, she seemed especially interested in our brochure about abortion and our brochure about parenting. She said that though she didn’t think she could take on another child financially, if the ultrasound showed that she was far enough along, she would reconsider her decision to abort.
To everyone’s complete surprise, the ultrasound showed that she was pregnant with twins! “Well, this makes the whole thing different,” she said.
As we have continued to follow up with her about her pregnancy, she said that she has, indeed, decided to carry her twins, and that she is feeling more excited each day!

pregnancy. We know that abortion is not the only decision that comes with heartache and the unknown- choosing to parent oftentimes brings these same emotions, fears and challenges. This is why we exist- to be a life-affirming, safe space in the Greater Portland area to listen to women and their stories, and, through this opportunity, show them the love and grace of Christ that eases anxiety.
