Amy came into Ava Health looking tired and worn out. She knew she was pregnant but had no idea what she was going to do. As I took her back, I knew that this was going to be a challenging appointment.
This woman had previous abortions and said that they were hard but was still considering it for this pregnancy. She was also a drug addict and one of her main concerns was how her drug use would affect this pregnancy.
As I continued to talk with her and go over the different options she had, her eyes welled up with tears. She did not want to go through with another abortion, yet she felt like she had no other option. While she was too far along in the pregnancy to receive an ultrasound at our clinic, I asked her if it was okay if I prayed with her, and she said that would be all right. I asked the Lord to give her wisdom and courage. When I finished, she thanked me and took the information home with her.
I asked the Lord to give her wisdom and courage.
A couple weeks later, I called her, and she told me that she had decided to carry. She had been able to stay clean from the drugs and had not touched them since the appointment.
When she gave birth, she came back to show us her beautiful baby. It brought me such joy to see and hold that little one. Her friend came in with her, and as they were leaving her friend pulled me aside and told me that I was the reason that she had decided to keep this baby. She proceeded to tell me that because I had prayed with Amy, she was able to stay off the drugs for the rest of the pregnancy and that that had meant a lot to her. I was so encouraged that day, and I knew that I would never forget that woman and her baby.
