That’s My Baby
Meekah came to her ultrasound appointment with many reasons to have an abortion. She wanted to get on her feet first; it would mean less of a financial burden so that her current child would have a more financially stable life; it’s unfair for another baby to come into a financially unstable life...
Having had a previous abortion, she knew how she would feel afterwards and promised herself she would never have another one. Yet, she was considering it again.
She left the clinic still considering abortion but had accepted a follow-up ultrasound. When I called to remind her of her follow-up appointment, she was calling the baby, “my baby,” and making references to carrying. Not sure where she stood in her decision-making process, so I asked her what her plans were. “Oh I plan to carry. When I saw the heartbeat on the screen, I said, “That’s my baby.”’
