Within our clinics, we are often reminded that some women come to us carrying far more than the weight of an unexpected pregnancy.

Woman staring out window on trainFacing both emotional and physical abuse, she walked through our doors exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure of what the future could hold. When she first learned she was pregnant, she had made the difficult decision to flee an unsafe situation in search of safety for herself and her unborn child. Finding herself alone and unsupported, the doubt crept in, and she began to consider ending her pregnancy. In that moment, she didn’t know what decision she would make; she only knew she needed help.

During her ultrasound, our nurse shared something unexpected: She was much further along in her pregnancy than she had realized. That moment caused her to pause and carefully reconsider her options. We didn’t know what decision she would make when she left the clinic that day, but we made sure she knew that she would not walk through it alone.

In the midst of so much uncertainty, we were able to connect her with safe housing. She bravely reported her abuser. Though the road ahead still felt unclear, she was beginning to move forward one step at a time.

Not long after, we found out that she decided to have her baby, and we invited her back to receive a baby basket. When she arrived, she brought a healthy baby nestled in her arms.

It was a powerful reminder of why we do this work.

What began in fear, abuse and uncertainty became a story of courage, resilience, and hope.

We were able to celebrate with her, hear more about how she was doing, and continue connecting her with support and resources for the journey ahead.

In moments when life feels overwhelming and choices feel impossible, Ava Health exists to walk alongside women with compassion, practical support, and hope—one story at a time.
