Every human person conceived has been created in the image of God.

The denial and distortion of this truth has been the weed in the garden God planted for His glory.

We see a heightened outworking of this in our day, whether in the discarding of the pre-born, the elderly, and the disabled, or in the oppression, abuse and slavery of women and children, or the exploitation, enslavement and genocide of those who exist at the mercy of the powerful.

For 40 plus years, the Gospel has been practiced by the PRCs in our city by loving our neighbors threatened and harmed by sexual brokenness and abortion, and by showing and sharing the hope of the Gospel of Christ with them.

This is the Church mobilized by faith working itself out in love.

After 4 decades of this mission, it’s understandable that some grow weary in well-doing, but we must not.

First Image (formerly PRC of Greater Portland) seeks to stir a new season of ministry to the most vulnerable in our city by engaging local churches in this mission, which I believe remains one of the most strategic in our culture. When we exercise sacrificial compassion we demonstrate our conviction that every neighbor is created with the dignity of reflecting God, and called to the destiny of eternal life with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

I invite you to take advantage of the season of “Sanctity of Human Life” in January through February by highlighting the truth that all people are created in the image of God, and our need to live out that truth in the lives of those that are being impacted. The work we do in the lives of students through The Reality Project, by providing alternatives to abortion through our PRCs, and by renewing those suffering from past abortions with hope through our Heart, seeks to do just that.

Thousands of churches across the nation designate a Sunday in January or February to highlight the ministry of First Image. We provide free materials, in-person testimonies and many ways to get involved in order to orient local churches to the good work God is doing through partnership with First Image.

And, to stimulate your people to family-friendly action, we can provide baby bottles that can be filled with change that will go towards funding the services and resources we offer to our clients in the Name of Christ.

This year, we have added an online fundraising element as well to help inspire churches and individuals toward compassion. You can learn more by clicking this link: fundraise.old.first-image.org/SOHL

Please join us this season by inspiring compassion among your friends, family and church community toward those that are vulnerable, voiceless or misled.
